Matthews, N.C. (August 19, 2026) — CT United FC secured a statement 2-0 road victory over Eastern Conference-leading Crown Legacy FC on Wednesday night at Sportsplex at Matthews in MLS NEXT Pro play.
After a tightly contested start, the Coywolves broke through in the 16th minute. Lukas Kamrath helped start the move from the back before Andre Applewhaite advanced down the left side and delivered a low ball across the face of goal. Bryan Destin met it inside the box and finished with his left foot to give CT United a 1-0 lead.
CT United continued to create opportunities after going in front. In the 31st minute, Dylan Lacy picked out Ayden Wolanski inside the Crown Legacy box, but Wolanski’s effort went just wide.
The Coywolves nearly doubled their advantage during a frantic sequence in first-half stoppage time. Destin, Lacy and Daniel D’Ippolito each had efforts blocked by the Crown Legacy defense before a Lacy corner brought the opening half to a close with CT United ahead 1-0.
Alex Monis entered at halftime, replacing D’Ippolito, and the complexion of the match changed shortly after the restart. Crown Legacy midfielder Daniel Longo, who had been booked in the first half, received his second yellow card following a foul on Jahvar Stephenson in the 51st minute. The dismissal left the hosts with 10 men for the remainder of the match.
CT United continued to press its advantage. Substitute, and leading goal scorer, Barnabás Tanyi helped create an opportunity for Monis in the 63rd minute before Kamrath sent a header narrowly over the crossbar from Lacy’s corner two minutes later.
The Coywolves found their second goal in the 73rd minute. Wolanski helped move the ball forward before Lacy delivered it into the middle of the penalty area. Tanyi met the pass with a first-time left-footed finish, sending it past Jahiem Wickham to double the CT United advantage.
Crown Legacy continued to push despite playing a man down, but Gunther Rankenburg and the Coywolves’ defense protected the clean sheet. Rankenburg made back-to-back saves on Baye Coulibaly and Hugo Mbongue in the 89th minute before CT United saw out seven minutes of stoppage time.
The result gave CT United its second consecutive road victory and fourth win in its last five matches. The Coywolves moved to 37 points and seventh place in the Eastern Conference while preventing Crown Legacy from clinching a playoff berth.
CT United will remain on the road to face Philadelphia Union II on Sunday, August 23, at Subaru Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
