New Haven, CT (August 9, 2026) — CT United FC’s league-leading winning streak ended on Sunday afternoon after a 2-1 loss to New England Revolution II at Reese Stadium in MLS NEXT Pro play.
The visitors were first to break through. An 8th minute New England corner was whipped into the danger area and bounced off of Gunther Rankenburg into his own net to give the Revolution a 1-0.
The sides traded chances through the rest of the first half, but neither team was able to put any away. The Coywolves totalled eight shots at goal in the half and Rankenburg made two strong saves to prevent New England from adding to its lead.
CT United came out of the locker room after halftime with energy, scoring just 20 seconds into the half. A Daniel D’Ippolito cross was headed by Dylan Lacy to halftime substitute Cauã Paixão. With his first kick of the game, Paixão hit it on the volley and into the top right corner past Donovan Parisian. It’s Paixão’s third goal of the season and equalized the matchup for the Coywolves.
The Revolution responded with a goal of their own just nine minutes later. Myles Morgan struck one past Rankenburg on the volley, giving New England a 2-1 lead.
The Coywolves were unable to find another goal despite several major chances near the end of the match. It’s the first loss for CT United since June 26th and the end of an eight-game homestand. CT United travel to face-off against FC Cincinnati 2 at Northern Kentucky University Stadium on Sunday, August 16th. Kick-off scheduled for 6 PM.
