New Haven, Conn. (August 1, 2026) — CT United FC has won five straight and nine of its last 11 after a 4-2 rout over Orlando City B in front of a lively crowd at Reese Stadium on Saturday in MLS NEXT Pro play.
It was a slow start to the match in which both sides had stretches of momentum but were unable to find major chances. The breakthrough came in the 31st minute for Orlando. A cross to the back post from Matthew Belgodere found the head of Landon Okonski, who guided it past Gunther Rankenburg to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
The Coywolves responded in just five minutes. CT United’s Warren Agostoni drew a foul on Ignacio Gomez just outside of Orlando’s box, within striking distance for a direct attempt. Andre Applewhaite stood over the dead ball and made no mistake, firing it into the top left corner past Tristan Himes to even up the match at 1-1. It’s Applewhaite’s fourth goal of the season and his second straight game with a score.
Barnabas Tanyi added a moment of individual brilliance for the Coywolves in the 38th minute. He corralled a Dylan Lacy through ball with a back heel touch at the top of the box, dropping the opposing defender to the ground. He then dribbled onto his left foot, past another Orlando defender and drove a perfectly placed shot in the bottom left corner. The goal is Tanyi’s 10th of the year, good for fourth in MLS NEXT Pro.
The second half of the match was all Coywolves. In the 53rd minute, a pass in the Orlando City backline was intercepted by Daniel D’Ippolito. D’Ippolito slipped it through to Dylan Lacy on the right, who hit it first time into the net. Lacy gave the Coywolves a 3-1 lead and has 2+ goal contributions in two of his last three matches.
CT United added a fourth to its tally in the 61st minute. Alex Monis got on the end of a Rankenburg long ball and sent a perfectly-placed cross to D’Ippolito at the back post. D’Ippolito finished it off for his fifth goal of the season and the Coywolves were destined to add to their win-streak.
Belgodere added a goal for Orlando in the 90+3 minute, but it was too late. The Coywolves secured the three points with a 4-2 thrashing. CT United looks ahead to the final game of an eight-match homestand against New England Revolution II on Sunday, August 9 at Reese Stadium in New Haven. Kickoff scheduled for 4 PM.
