Match Preview: CT United FC Looks to Extend Surge Against Philadelphia Union II

Connecticut (August 21, 2026) - CT United FC hits the road Sunday to face Philadelphia Union II in the third and final meeting between the two clubs this season. The Coywolves enter the matchup following a statement 2-0 road victory over Eastern Conference-leading Crown Legacy FC on Wednesday, their seventh win in their last eight matches. The match kicks off at 3 PM on Sunday, August 23.

Coywolves Recent Form 

CT United has surged into fifth place in the Eastern Conference with 40 points following Wednesday’s win over Crown Legacy. The Coywolves have won seven of their last eight matches, positioning themselves firmly in the playoff picture. 

Sunday’s matchup will be the third and final meeting between CT United and Philadelphia Union II this season. The Coywolves earned a 2-1 road victory in March before Philadelphia answered with a 2-1 win at Storrs in April. Philadelphia enters Sunday in 11th place in the Eastern Conference with 33 points. 

CT United leads MLS NEXT Pro with 88 big chances created and ranks second with 6.0 shots on target per match. The Coywolves have scored 45 goals this season, good for second in the conference. 

The Coywolves have also been effective defensively, ranking third in the league in save percentage at 76.6% and second with three penalty saves. 

Standout Coywolves 

Several players delivered standout performances in Wednesday’s statement 2-0 road victory over Crown Legacy FC. 

Defender Lukas Kamrath anchored the Coywolves’ back line, helping CT United secure a shutout with his organization, defensive awareness and timely recovery runs. Kamrath recorded 11 defensive contributions and seven clearances, while also completing 10 passes into the final third. 

Attacker Barnabas Tanyi scored the goal and continued to provide a dangerous presence behind the opponent’s back line. The goal moved Tanyi to 11 on the season, keeping him atop the Coywolves’ scoring chart. He also completed 80% of his passes and won 100% of his ground duels. 

Defender Ayden Wolanski made his first start of the season after being called up from the CT United U19 Academy team in May. Wolanski played all 90 minutes and excelled in his one-on-one defending, contributing nine defensive actions to help secure the clean sheet. He also recorded 41 touches and four passes into the final third.
