CT United FC will make its debut in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2027, as U.S. Soccer today confirmed the format and participating clubs for the 112th edition of the nation’s historic club championship.
The 2027 U.S. Open Cup will feature a 96-team field representing professional and amateur soccer across the country, including all 27 U.S.-based Major League Soccer clubs who will enter in the Round of 64. .
As an independent MLS NEXT Pro club, CT United FC will enter the competition in the First Round, joining Carolina Core FC and Chattanooga FC as the three independent MLS NEXT Pro clubs participating in the tournament.
The single-elimination tournament provides CT United with its first opportunity to compete for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and face clubs from across the American soccer landscape. The competition will culminate with the Final on December 15, 2027, with the winner earning a place in the Concacaf Champions Cup.
The 2027 U.S. Open Cup First Round is scheduled for April 13-14 and April 20-21, with the Round of 64 set for July 8-11. Dates are subject to change.
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, first contested in 1914, is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the United States and brings professional and amateur clubs together in a competition that spans the country.
For CT United FC, the 2027 tournament represents another first in the club’s history and an opportunity to represent Connecticut on one of the biggest stages in American soccer.
